Java cassia also known as Trengguli Wanggang, Bobondelan, Pink Shower, Apple Blossom Tree, and Rainbow Shower Tree are species of trees in the Fabaceae family. Originally from Southeast Asia, but has been disseminated in tropical regions throughout the world as an ornamental tree because of its beautiful flowers.

The Java Cassia tree is one of the nine profitable trees in Thailand, and it is said that this tree brings good luck, ensures a high ranking that is sustainable, and gives victory. The flowers have become a symbol of the Chainat Province, Thailand.

In Indonesia, cassia java trees are found in Java and Sumatra. The native habitat of this species includes China, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Mauritius, the United States, and the Pacific Islands. Nowadays cassia java trees are also found growing in other places including India and the Philippines.

In India, cassia java flowers bloom in April and May, fruits and leaves will grow back in December. In Thailand, java cassia flowers bloom between February and April. In Indonesia, cassia java flowers bloom from October to December, the fruit and leaves will grow back in the summer.

The leaves are pinnate with 12 pairs of elliptical leaves.

The flowers are pale pink to red with yellow stamens.

Usually, the soil under the java cassia tree is covered in a beautiful pink color towards the end of the flowering season which is created naturally from falling flowers.

Java cassia is a fast-growing, deciduous, or semi-autumn tree that blossoms in spring and sheds its leaves in winter. The tree often grows with upright stems that reach a height of 25-40 meters.

Because of its beauty, many cassia java trees are planted as ornamental trees on the edges of roads, city parks, and in large home yards.


This tree is used medically as a substitute for Cassia fistula to treat constipation, colic, chlorosis, and urinary disorders.

The leaves are effective against herpes simplex and skin.

The stem is one of the ingredients in ayurvedic antidiabetic formulations and other traditional medicines.

Java cassia produces hard and heavy wood that is used for construction and furniture making.
